FlipBook Makes Drawing Easier

Drawing is clearly one of the most important parts of animation.
Telling a good story is also important but without the drawings a good story is just a radio program.

Excellent Line Quality

The thing that appeals to me most is the line quality. I love the look of natural line drawings, the texture of the pencil in the roughs and the smoothness of the edges in the clean-ups. FlipBook is great at this. No matter what tools you have to draw with, if the end result doesn’t look like it should then too much is missing. If the lines are jagged or pixelated it feels rough and is actually uncomfortable to watch. If the lines are too perfect (like most vectorized programs) the lines look sterile and lose the natural feeling. Drawing in FlipBook produces lines that are right in the middle, smooth, natural and full of feeling.

FlipBook also has some great drawing tools. The Pencil has a very natural look and feel. As you draw on your screen or a separate graphics tablet the line looks just like you would expect it too and it stays where you draw it. I’ve seen apps that adjust the line as soon as you pick up the stylus. So now the line is the creation of some algorithm and not yours. And there are lots of options for the Pencil. In addition to the freestyle drawing you can also draw straight lines, curves, circles and squares.

And to top it all off, literally, we put the lines on top of the paint. While this is essential for lines that blend properly with the paint and the background, it also gives you several benefits while you’re painting, especially when you want to erase. With other apps the eraser only works like that back end of a pencil. It erases whatever you drag it over and only where you drag it. But FlipBook’s eraser can erase lines and paint separately so you never risk losing the lines when you erase paint and you can erase paint the same way you applied it – with a single click.
